Armour Sets Revamp: Part 1 - Discussion

Our items and art teams have been hard at work redesigning the look of every armour set in the game.

Armour sets are an integral part of WAR. Not only are they a key functional aspect of the game, but they're also a badge of honour, a visual display of all the hard work you've put into your character. We often get feedback from you, our players, requesting more diversity between the armour sets, especially in Tier 4 where it really counts.

Your requests have not gone unheard! For the past few months, our items and art teams have been hard at work redesigning the look of every armour set in the game. We'd like give you a glimpse of what's in store by showing you before and after shots of some of the most popular Tier 4 armor sets. We have six careers to show you today, but fear not, more will come! Read on!

Below you will find before and after shots for six careers (three Order and three Destruction) in their Sentinel, Conqueror, Darkpromise, and Invader armour sets. This is still a work in progress, and the set dye colors are not applied yet, but you should be able to get a good idea of how each set has changed. The teams had two goals in mind: Make each armour set look visually unique, and make the Tier 4 armour sets look as epic as they should for all the effort that goes into obtaining them. We feel they've met these goals and hope you do, too.

Now, here comes the important part! We want to hear from you. What do you think of the changes? Do you love them? Do you hate them? Let us know, and please be as detailed as possible! The items and art teams are very excited about the improvements, but at the end of the day, they want you, the players, to be happy with them, too.

Please click on each thumbnail below to view the full armour set comparison image!

Now that you've had a chance to see a slice of the upcoming changes to armour sets, we'd love to get your opinions on them in detail.  What do you like and do you think anything could be improved?

Your feedback here is what Mythic will be reading to judge the reaction to the improvements, so remember to be constructive and give us as much awesome feedback as possible.  It is very important this thread stays on topic and is constructive.

Update: Nate from Mythic responds to the feedback received so far here!

It doesn't seem like a very fair comparison when the original armour sets are taken from in-game and the new ones are renders.

They do look better, don't get me wrong, but put into practice I suspect the visual difference will be greatly reduced.

EDIT: Also, if you look at Bright Wizard's Sentinel outfit, you'll see it is, in fact, almost identical to the original (only the gauntlets have changed), it's just a different colour and far higher rendering.

Nice work, really like Zealot (perfect), Swordmaster, BG (very nice) and SH. BW and Engi looks a little bit way to official to me.

Wait a moment.

You mean that the Sets will actually start to look different?

Then you have a very lucky Runepriest here  :runesmith-laugh:

The next I wish for is that my braids stop cliping with my own body.

PS: I don't think that the invader miniskirt suits the BW

They do look very nice, do I dare hope for actual armor textures on Chosen set chest piece? Currently the Annihilator/Invader chest pieces looks like a tunic with the brownish arms/legs. A more armored approach would be recommended imo, like the Greenskin RVR influence reward chestpiece.

Swordmaster sets are copy and shuffle from current sets and inf rewards. Really lazy and unneeded change if you ask me. I'm pretty sure others are just the same.

Well to say I do like that Mythic finally realized that armor sets look too much alike one another. Though I must agree witht the above poster that some of them are just high resolution rendered and not much changed there. The Squig Herder sets looked very good along with Black Guard and Zealot. However the Sword masters set pieces look to much the same still... When upgrading to a Higher armor set one needs to get the feeling that it is infact an upgrade by the looks of it. In some cases here (i.e Bright Wizard) that is not the case and I think it need some more attention. More simply put: One should be able to tell by the looks of it what armor set a character wears....

Some nice changes, im sure there will be some very happy people.

I have some concerns with the Swordmaster sets though.

First off, the Sentinel helmet change is nice - ive never liked that rediculous thing it had before.

The Conqueror set has been turned into an identical twin of the Annihilator set with a few T4 influence reward models added to it. Its not so much a problem for me because I never use the set really, but to me its not as good as the old version.

The Dark Promise set is absolutely sweet. The art designers have done an incredible job revamping this set and is probably my favourite design out of all the changes in this thread. The old Conqueror helmet model (now the new Dark Promise model) is the only swordmaster helmet in the entire game which I switch on. If only more sets had something similar to this. The chest piece has incredible detail - really nice. Im sure many of the Dark Promise Swordmasters will be thrilled to see this new set, its just a shame im not a fan of the stats/set bonuses so its unlikely that ill be wearing it.

The Invader set looks like the T4 green items - the Precursor stuff. Personally, I dont know what to say - its not fantastic, but its not awful either. However, compared to the Dark Promise set, the Invader set doesnt even compare. The Invader set is probably the most common used set ive seen on nearly every Swordmaster ive seen ingame and spoken to from PTS servers. Its very popular, and its just a shame to see it become a clone of T4 green items. However, ill probably have to go and get some of the Precursor items and see if I can get used to it. (I guess I just feel a bit jealous after looking at the Dark Promise set lol)

Just an opinion from a rr68 Sword Master.

Edit: Forgot to mention, I really like the belt models. They work incredibly well with the other models, and some nice detail on them too. The Gloves are pretty nice, they arent the same model for all the sets which is a good change. And although its very unnoticeable, the boots look pretty good too.

Ah yes, constructive... my post did come across very negative, reading back on it, so I'll rephrase it succinctly as thus:

Could we get some in-game comparisons of the new sets (or full renders of the original sets) so we can fairly judge the quality of the work?

Thanks.
